Surgeons utilize robotic assistance to remove 5cm long tumour and preserve the patient’s kidney

Chennai, January 10, 2025: Apollo Proton Cancer Centre (APCC), successfully performs Chennai’s first Retroperitoneal Robot-assisted Partial Nephrectomy (RRAPN), showcasing its commitment to advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques.

The complex procedure was performed on a 40-year-old patient from Bangladesh who had a 5cm long tumour located near the kidney’s major blood vessels – a challenging position that made the surgery particularly intricate. 

Previously evaluated at multiple hospitals in Bangladesh, he was advised to undergo a radical nephrectomy—complete removal of the kidney. Traditional recommendations for such cases often involve a radical nephrectomy (complete kidney removal). However, the team at APCC pursued an approach, utilizing robotic assistance to remove the tumour while preserving the patient’s kidney. 

The innovative surgery not only preserved the kidney but also minimized surgical risks and ensured faster recovery. APCC’s skilled team of surgeons leveraged advanced robotic technology through a retroperitoneal approach, avoiding the abdominal cavity. The patient experienced minimal postoperative complications and was able to resume normal activities within days. 

This achievement highlights APCC’s expertise and leadership in delivering exceptional care, offering renewed hope to patients with complex renal tumours.

By utilizing the retroperitoneal robotic technique, we accessed the kidney directly from the back, bypassing the abdominal cavity entirely. This approach minimized surgical risks, preserving the kidney’s function, and enabled a swift recovery. This milestone sets a new benchmark for kidney surgeries in the region, showcasing our commitment to redefining standards in advanced medical care."

The Department of Visual Communication, in collaboration with the Placement Cell, successfully conducted a value-added course, The Rhythm of Cut last week

The program commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by an inaugural session led by renowned editor and director Mr. B. Lenin, who highlighted industry insights and the evolution of editing techniques. Subsequent sessions covered montage editing by Mr. Jayachandran, filmmaking music integration, and a motivational talk by actress Mrs. Devyani Rajkumar.

Percussionist Mr. Takkeshi conducted an engaging hands-on workshop on sound editing. The course culminated with a short film screening, live editing demonstrations, and practical sessions using Da Vinci Resolve.

During the Valedictory Function, participants were awarded certificates, marking their successful completion of the course. This initiative enriched students' filmmaking and editing skills, preparing them for advanced opportunities in the film industry.

Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) for Two-wheeler (TW) and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) driving license testing

MSIL to increase the number of Automated Driving Test Tracks to 44 across the country, from the current 27

Chennai: Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Transport Department, Government of Bihar to automate driving license test tracks at Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Gaya, Purnia and Saran. The MoA was signed in the presence of Smt. Sheela Kumari, Hon’ble Transport Minister of Bihar and Shri Sanjay Kumar Agarwal (IAS), Secretary, Transport Department, Government of Bihar. The MoA was signed by Shri Navin Kumar (IAS), State Transport Commissioner, Government of Bihar and Shri Tarun Agarwal, Senior Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, Maruti Suzuki.

With zero human intervention, the Automated Driving Test Tracks are aimed to make license testing more comprehensive, efficient, and transparent. The rigorous and standardized evaluation process is designed to assess candidates according to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR). Test results are also automatically generated.

Applauding Maruti Suzuki on its road safety efforts, Smt. Sheela Kumari, Hon’ble Transport Minister of Bihar said, “I applaud Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, for their exemplary commitment to road safety through nationwide programs. One of their innovative initiatives, the Automated Driving Test Tracks, ensures that only skilled drivers get a driving license, making our roads safer for everyone. We successfully automated the driving test tracks in Aurangabad and Patna with them and have seen drivers coming better prepared for the license testing. We are glad to partner with Maruti Suzuki once again to develop five more Automated Driving Test Tracks in Bihar. This collaboration will significantly contribute toward reducing road accidents and promoting responsible driving practices in our state of Bihar.”

Mr. Bharti added, “According to data shared by the Union Road Transport Ministry, 15.3 lakh lives were lost in road accidents in the 10 years between 2014-2023 in India. Road death rate in the country is around 250 per 10,000 km as opposed to 119 in China, 57 in the USA, and 11 in Australia. An important aspect of road safety is driver’s skill and knowledge of traffic rules. Automated Driving Test Tracks will ensure that license seekers are better prepared and only skilled drivers are awarded a driving license. This will bring a positive transformation that will go a long way to reduce road accidents caused by human error.”

Marut i Suzuki Automated Driving Test Tracks across India

Over the past years, Maruti Suzuki has systematically automated 27 driving test tracks (across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Haryana). The Company is in the process of setting up 12 additional ADTTs in Uttar Pradesh.

With the addition of these 5 test tracks in Bihar, the Company will complete automation of 44 driving test tracks across the country.

Chennai – Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, has added its first international recognition to its growing list of achievements by winning the prestigious Gold Award at the International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC) 2024 in Sri Lanka. Two teams from DICV participated in this highly competitive event alongside 1,083 teams from over 14 countries.

ICQCC, an annual convention, serves as a global platform where leading organizations showcase groundbreaking ideas and best practices in quality control. DICV's journey to the Gold Award at ICQCC reflects the dedication, passion and rigorous teamwork, invested in addressing two critical challenges in heavy-duty truck manufacturing. The team utilized a structured, data-driven approach that included in-depth analysis, cross-functional collaboration and innovative problem-solving, to identify the root causes of these issues. The solutions implemented not only enhanced customer safety and operational efficiency, but also improved product quality.

DICV demonstrates its commitment to high quality standards through its ‘Daimler India School of Quality’, which equips the entire workforce with advanced quality skills and a growth-oriented mindset. The program is structured across three levels: the Foundation level covers ‘Basic Quality Tools & Methods’, the Secondary level teaches ‘Advanced Quality Tools with Six Sigma Approach’, and the University level focuses on postgraduate and research programs.
