Apollo Hospitals, Seshadripuram Adds Second Cath Lab as Demand for Advanced Cardiac Care Continues to Rise
New facility increases capacity to nearly 500 procedures a month and will help treat an additional 3,000 patients annually
Bengaluru, June 19, 2026: Apollo Hospitals, Seshadripuram has commissioned its second Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab), expanding its ability to provide timely cardiac interventions and meet the growing demand for specialised heart care in Bengaluru and neighbouring districts.
The new Cath Lab was inaugurated by Dr. C. N. Manjunath, renowned cardiologist and Member of Parliament, Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha Constituency, in the presence of senior specialists from the hospital's Cardiac Sciences team, along with Mr. Akshay Oleti, CEO, Apollo Hospitals, Karnataka Region, and Mr. Uday Davda, Vice President, Apollo Hospitals, Sheshadripuram.
Apollo Hospitals, Seshadripuram currently manages more than 4,000 cardiac cases annually. Since its installation in 2015, the hospital's first Cath Lab has handled over 27,000 procedures, supporting both emergency and planned cardiac interventions around the clock.
With the addition of the second Cath Lab, the hospital will be able to perform approximately 200 additional procedures every month, taking its total capacity to nearly 500 procedures per month. The expansion is expected to benefit nearly 3,000 additional patients every year.
The newly installed facility is equipped with the **GE Allia platform**, which offers advanced fusion imaging technology designed to support complex procedures while reducing radiation exposure and contrast usage. The system will be used across a range of specialties, including interventional cardiology, structural heart disease, electrophysiology, vascular interventions, neuro-intervention and paediatric cardiology.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. C. N. Manjunath, renowned cardiologist and Member of Parliament, Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha Constituency, said, " In cardiac emergencies, every minute matters. Delays in treatment can significantly impact outcomes, which is why expanding Cath Lab infrastructure is important. The commissioning of this second Cath Lab at Apollo Hospitals, Seshadripuram is a valuable addition that will help meet the growing demand for advanced cardiac and vascular interventions in Bengaluru."
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Akshay Oleti, CEO, Apollo Hospitals, Karnataka Region, said, “The demand for advanced interventions had grown steadily over the years. The second Cath Lab is a practical step towards ensuring that we can accommodate more patients, undertake complex procedures without scheduling constraints, and respond faster when emergencies arrive. It also reflects our continued investment in strengthening specialised care services across Karnataka.”
Mr. Uday Davda, Vice President, Apollo Hospitals, Sheshadripuram, said, "Cardiac emergencies do not come with prior notice. There are times when emergency cases, referrals and scheduled procedures overlap during the same period. The additional Cath Lab helps us manage those situations more efficiently and gives our clinical teams greater flexibility. For patients, this means quicker access to treatment and shorter waiting periods.”
The expanded facility will support a wider range of procedures including complex coronary interventions, structural heart procedures, advanced electrophysiology procedures, peripheral vascular interventions, neuro-interventional procedures and paediatric cardiac interventions.
Representing the Cardiac Sciences team, Dr. B. C. Srinivas, Dr. Jayaranganath M, Dr. Srinivas K. H, Dr. Vikram B. Kolhari, Dr. Somashekar C. M, Dr. Roopa R, Dr. Manoj Kumar S. P, Dr. Anand Subramanyam and Dr. Shashidhar K. P, said, “The scope of procedures performed in Cath Labs has expanded considerably over the years. The new system provides improved imaging quality while helping reduce radiation exposure and contrast usage during complex interventions. Equally important, the additional Cath Lab allows us to maintain faster response times for emergency patients while continuing scheduled procedures without disruption."
One of the immediate benefits of the second Cath Lab will be improved access for emergency patients. The additional facility will help ensure that patients arriving with acute cardiac conditions can be taken up for intervention without delays, while also reducing waiting periods for elective procedures.
The technology is expected to be particularly beneficial for paediatric patients. Compared to the previous generation system, the new platform can reduce radiation exposure by nearly **50 percent**, an important advantage for children who may require complex interventions and follow-up imaging during the course of treatment.
Apollo Hospitals, Sheshadripuram is a **200-bed multi-speciality hospital** and is currently expanding to **350 beds**. The addition of the second Cath Lab further strengthens the hospital's cardiac sciences programme and enhances its ability to deliver comprehensive care across cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery and allied specialties.
