Tata Asset Management launches first index fund based on BSE Select Business Groups Index to invest in India’s future
November, 2024: Tata Asset Management today announced the launch of the Tata BSE Business Group Index Fund, a new investment opportunity designed to provide investors with exposure to India's leading conglomerates. The fund opened for subscription on November 25, 2024, and closes on December 9, 2024.
The Tata BSE Select Business Group Index Fund tracks the BSE Select Business Groups index, comprising companies from seven of India’s largest business groups. These conglomerates span 19 diverse industries, reflecting central themes of India’s economic growth. The fund will include 30 companies from key sectors driving India's future growth, with the financial services sector excluded to focus on other industries.
The seven business groups included in the fund are Tata Group, Reliance Industries, Adani Group, Aditya Birla Group, L&T, Jindal Group, and Mahindra Group. The weightage for each group is capped at 23% based on their free-float market capitalization.

Through this fund, investors can get exposure to new-age/up-coming growth-oriented sectors like electric vehicles and battery technology, green energy and smart cities, AI and quantum computing and defense and aerospace, among others.
The Tata BSE Select Business Group Index Fund is open-ended and available for both subscription and redemption. The weightage for each group is capped at 23% based on their free-float market capitalization. Currently, the Tata Group has a weightage of 22.7%, Reliance Industries at 22.3%, and L&T Group at 15%.
Index Methodology
The index methodology of the Tata BSE Business Group Index Fund comprises a maximum of 30 stocks, representing companies within the largest 7 business groups in India. The largest company is based on the 6-month average free-float market capitalization from every group. The next 23 companies are ranked based on 6-month average free-float market capitalization and included in the index.

Brings life-changing relief to a 30-yr-old patient from Oman
Chennai, 20th November 2024 In a breakthrough towards redefining pain management, a team of spine surgeons and pain specialists at Apollo Cancer Centre (ACC), Chennai, performed Indias first Dorsal Root Ganglion stimulation surgery using spinal cord stimulator, bringing life-changing relief to a 30-year-old patient from Oman. This innovative procedure opens new avenues for individuals suffering from chronic, nerve-related pain when other treatments have failed. The patient endured constant, debilitating pain in his groin and upper thigh area for over two years after undergoing surgery for a testicular tumour in Oman. After a thorough evaluation and multidisciplinary team efforts, the patient was found to have pain originating from a damaged nerve in the inguinal region (area where the lower abdominal wall meets the upper thigh). The genitofemoral nerve—a primarily sensory nerve—supplies the upper thigh and emerges from the spine, passing through muscles to reach the inguinal region. During the surgery in this area, the nerve was damaged, causing severe pain to the patient. It is known as genitofemoral neuralgia.
Chronic pain, defined as pain lasting more than three to six months, is a common condition that affects millions worldwide. (Link). According to the Global Burden of Disease Study, chronic pain affects up to 20% of the global population (Link). In India, chronic pain affects around 19% of adults (Link), significantly impacting their quality of life and productivity. Cases of post-surgical nerve pain, like in this instance, are often difficult to treat with standard pain relief techniques, underscoring the need for innovative solutions.
To alleviate the pain, the spine surgery and pain specialists team at ACC, building on their experience and innovation, developed an unprecedented approach, aiming to improve the g patients quality of life. By implanting a spinal cord stimulator to stimulate the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) in the patients spine, they were able to block pain sensations originating from the damaged nerve. This first-of-its-kind unconventional procedure offers a viable treatment for patients whose pain originates from nerve damage and whose lives are severely impacted by chronic and unmanageable pain.
"After two years of agony and losing hope, I can finally look forward to a life without pain," said the patient (who chooses to remain anonymous), whose relief was immediate after the procedure. My family and I had been struggling to find an answer, and it feels like a miracle to finally be free from the pain.
